25° 45.3' N 79° 14.41' W 06 Mar 2024 23:23 None None None Last post- it was Tortuga's ‘Wing’ and then a ‘Foil’. Forever young- that’s all I can say! We both tried them for a ver good laugh! (I will post tomorrow on how we got here:)
24° 5.71' N 76° 24.44' W 03 Mar 2024 19:10 None None None At last, all good things must come to an end. We bid goodbye to our cruising buddies in Children’s Bay. Oh, but what a wonderful spot. We pretty much had it to ourselves. It was an excellent location to try Tortuga swing and foil. We both rise it and had some success but it was so much fun!! We saw the weather, however, and decided to begin our journey north. We went thru ta cut in the Brigatines to stay in relatively flat water on the banks(it has been a ruckus on the sound all week). That set us up for an epic sail to Blackpoint! It was very special as we glided into the harbor just at sunset! A little provisioning and rest and we jump again😎
23° 44.73' N 76° 4.09' W 28 Feb 2024 16:03 None None None Happy last day of February! We are now nestled into Childrens Bay in the Lee Stocking Loop. Pretty special spot. It is a shallow anchorage but protected from east and south. Today we clean the bottom of our boat. Every sailors dream!😄. We had. Great time in GT. Caught some of the cruisers regatta with SV Cookie Monster, Shooting Star, and visiting a nearby boat, fellow cruisers who own a pacific seacraft, Kelly and Chris(also from the AYC). We watched a rowdy softball game between cruisers and Bahamians and caught part of the bocce tournament. Our sail here was too fast(we did not want to get in at low). So we had only a jib and wind vane. Very sweet 4-5 knots. Still lots of wind around! We got into Twin Beaches 2 hours into a rising tide but still hit some some exciting skinny water! Anchor down amongst good friends. The next day we left on a HIGH tide😃 and came here to Childrens. We explored coconut beach and gathered a few. Later that evening we went to a jam on Kindred Spirit. We all had a rousing sing along and enjoyed some conch appetizers, and other savory delights. All is well on Meriwether!😎
23° 30.25' N 75° 45.76' W 19 Feb 2024 01:33 None None None The party was great! We connected with many cruisers we have not seen in awhile and the food was plentiful. We stayed one more day to wait for supplies from theCaptain C boat and hiked one of our favorite trails. I found another hamburger bean on an Oceanside beach and we watched some baby goats nursing.in the shrubs off the trail. So sweet! But all good things come to an end and on Friday we began our passage back to Georgetown to extend our visas. We had an exciting first day on the ‘outside,’ of the Raggeds by exiting Raccoon Cut. It was a bit rolly, but very deep ,and we trolled, hopingto catch a fish. Seven hours later (and sadly- no fish)we popped thru Melinda Cut to anchor the night at Water Cay. (After leaving Hog you do not get an internet signal until you get close enough to the Exuma’s. )Once we were outside the notorious Hog Cut we dropped an anchor to wait for high tide. (We showered, ate lunch and took a nap:). As soon as it was close enough to high, we followed several cat boats thru the cut(with4-6 inches under our keelat two skinny spots) 🙃and high tailed it back to Georgetown before the sun totally set. And here we be! (We managed to find an anchorage amountg the 400 boats here,- a 10 year record)😎
22° 14.96' N 75° 45.13' W 15 Feb 2024 18:04 None None None We were boarded this morning by the Bahamian defense force. I fed them freshly baked homemade bread while they checked our boat and papers. They were very friendly(maybe thebread helped?:)and told us to give them a call if we ever needed anything. After that, we timed the tide in the cut and moved to the famous Hog Cay. Here there is a “cruisers hut”. We helped put a thatched roof on several years ago. There are around 17 boats here. Many of these cruisers have come here for years. It is also very remote! There will be a party tonight!😎😎
