Fantastic sail today, beam, then close reach in 12-20 NNE breeze, a highlight of this summer of seals, porpoises, bald eagles and ospreys, granite and pine trees. Can’t seem to peel away from this easy little city. We’re back on a Brown’s Wharf mooring at $35/night, plus timed showers at 50 cents or so. Thick fog in the evening but woke up to a crisp, clear, chilly and stiff northerly breeze. Private island, quiet summer retreat, families coming here for generations. Came to visit childhood friend of Jack’s and his wife at their cottage. Nice, comfortable feel, could see spending time here. Long day of motor-sailing into light SW wind, 11-16 apparent. Set out for Monhegan in light southerly but 10 miles out thick fog closed in and wind went more west, so we changed course. Fog stayed with us all day and all the way into the harbor: less than 1/10-mile visibility at times, lobster traps and fishing boats. It’s good to be here! |
