There are many Fish Attracting Devices (FAD's) in the Davao gulf and quite lot of shipping so sailing at night with no moon can be risky - although having AIS is a great help to see what the ships are doing on the chart. We drifted a couple hours with the drogue out once a few miles north of the Cape to wait for daylight - interested bankas woke us. Last stop before home. | 6° 16.0' N | 126° 11.6' E | 26 Jul 2014 14:30 | 13.0 | 5.0 | 270 | Rounding Cape San Agustin before a bit before midnight after much motoring and some good sailing over the last 2 days. | 7° 15.3' N | 126° 35.8' E | 26 Jul 2014 00:01 | 1000.0 | 6.0 | 200 | Midnight and just past the Eastern most point of the Philippines at Pt Pusan. Wind is light but we have about 1 - 2 kt of current helping us along | 9° 19.15' N | 126° 13.13' E | 25 Jul 2014 00:00 | 60.0 | 6.0 | 114 | Rounding Cauit Pt NE Mindanao after a bracing start with 20 kts breeze now the wind is dying and we are contemplating playing with the kite. | 9° 34.69' N | 125° 55.73' E | 24 Jul 2014 09:28 | 30.0 | 0.0 | 0 | Moved to Surigao township alongside Elizabeth Jane for planning over coffee. They had just done overnighter so planning rest day. After coffee we left through Hinatuan Passage reaching 11.5 kts SOG - about 5 kt current. Then passed south of Hinatuan Island where all the ore ships were being loaded from barges and the crews waved happily at us. On to Bucas Grande into Karin Bay near where we have previously dropped the hook. |
